So you want to learn how to sew. you've come to the right place because I have developed the number one Method for easy sewing. I really enjoy sewing without patterns. sewing without patterns can be really rewarding because you make something completely from scratch using your own design from your head. it's something that you need to practice over time a sort of skill that you need to learn usually I would start by draping a piece of fabric on the mannequin. When I drape the fabric I get to see where I could cut a hole or cut some arm holes. I usually start with a square, a triangle or a circle and then I just play with the fabric and start cutting holes and connecting squares and circles to create neckline and armholes. This process is really easy I really recommend you to start on like a scrap piece of fabric that you don't mind ruining first this method is hard because you make a lot of mistakes but it's also fun to create something that is completely unique and is not conforming to pre-made sewing patterns.
Don't get me wrong sewing patterns have a place in the sewing world, in fact, I do believe that everyone should learn how to use a sewing pattern and learn how to take measurements from the body. however, I think this freehand Sewing method is really fun and creative to use it can really take the anxiety and the scariness away from sewing for the first time I know a lot of people find it intimidating creating their first piece of clothing or even saying their own pillow or any sewing Project. I think it's good to get out of this mindset of really thinking I have to do everything right all the time. Sometimes it might be good to take some risk and when you take risks you can find you create something really beautiful. I think I've created the most wonderful designs from taking the risk. If you don't know where to start I would say begin by using my free YouTube tutorial this is perfect for the winter weather it's how you can create a faux fur cover up and it's 100% no sewing. I also have an easy DIY tartan top that you could try this is using the very simple method and the basic idea.
But if you'd like to take a step further I have an entire skillshare course on how to sew your own clothes I walk you through how to make 4 different garments from scratch using absolutely no sewing patterns this is for the complete beginner so is not for someone who's advanced. I'll be creating some advanced sewing pattern videos later for my advanced people out there.
If you'd like to have free access to my course as well as three access to other courses on skillshare click this link here and this will give you one-month free access.

Hello my lovely welcome back to my blog so today I have an amazing fantastic topped designed for you. It's a puffy style rustic kind of top. When I designed it I was channeling vibes of Victorian mixed with a little bit of antique style so I was looking for the kind of fabrics that they would have used in that time. so for this project I chose cotton I was looking for sort of muted rustic brown fabrics I found the perfect rustic brown fabric and I found it on fabric.com they have amazing fabrics on this website and I think its the best fabric I have ever tried online. I browsed through all of the different sections and I found this fabric and it was perfect for the project that I was creating. My initial idea was to make a simple top I am currently making a skillshare course about making your own garments without any patterns so I decided to start sketching and making different ideas of how I can make an interesting piece without a pattern.
I decided to do this because this was my original way of learning how to so before I even went to fashion University and learnt how to say I started by making my own garments from scratch without any patterns at all. when I first started learning how to say I found patterns to be quite intimidating I found it confusing and hard to follow a lot of the patterns were very difficult to understand for a beginner. So what I used to do was I would find some fabrics and cut it up and experimenting with drape and creating shapes and designing without using any patterns. and with this way I developed my free hand sewing technique and in my upcoming skillshare course I'm going to teach you how you can make any garment you want From Scratch using absolutely no sewing patterns at all this is perfect for beginners to advanced level because you can always learn something new from creating something without using patterns. with this top I started off with a huge baggy Square to drape over the body again started to add in some Batwing Arms I gathered the neckline and the waist with some elastic and I added pleating to the hem.
I have developed my own easy freehand cutting method this technique can be applied to anything you are making. Don’t forget to sign up below. Click the “subscribe” button and you’ll be the first to know as soon as I launch a new course or have a big announcement to share with my students.
Hello my beautiful people welcome back to the blog, I'm so happy to see you here! I can’t get over this adorable dress. This pattern is a winner. Today I have a new design to share with you all I've created this really fun asymmetrical black dress do you love the dress as much as I do? Let me know tell me what you think of my new dress. For this dress I used Black cotton from fabric.com.
I designed this dress exclusively for the new skillshare course that I have coming up in the future and in this new course I teach you exactly how to make this dress step by step using a freehand cutting method that I developed.
This exciting freehand cutting method means that you can create any garment without the use of any sewing patterns which is amazing because if you don't use any patterns it means that you can design freely. This is my favourite way to design because it gives me the complete freedom to make the shapes. And create the look that I want and customise it exactly the way I need it to be. With this dress design I decided to sketch it out first when I was thinking of this design I wanted something very elegant and beautiful but at the same time fun and different! Currently I'm completely obsessed with voluminous shapes at the moment. I usually I like the very tight fitted things but I'm really obsessed with the cinch in the waist and the voluminous silhouette. So for this dress I decided to create a very full asymmetrical skirt and a nice baggy top and cinch it in the waist with elastic and then I accentuated this detail with my belt in the styling afterwards.

FREe Sewing Pattern
So if you're here on my blog you're probably wondering why you would need a new sewing machine. Welcome to the chantellefashion blog i’m a freelance seamstress & pattern cutter this is my opinion on the best sewing machines on the market now. Owning your very own sewing machine will quickly speed up any sewing job. Whether it be a quick repair to you dress or making a special occasion outfit a sewing machine will help you out immensely. Most of the machines available today are created using computer technology which enhances to stitch quality and the ease of use. I have a breakdown list of the best sewing machines that will help you take your sewing to the next level. I created this guid to help you save time before you buy a machine because you don't have the chance to feel it yourself. The main things we're going to be looking at the functions on each machine as well as a look at automatic needle threader this is particularly important as when you was doing your own projects you don't want to be sitting around with any pesky little needles you need to re thread. You also want a buttonhole sensor a fall down sensor that automatically does the size of the button required to fit the chosen button You also want to make sure the machine you choose has a very good selection of different stitches.
Starting with this great value budget sewing machine the Brother L14 Sewing Machine. This machine is perfect for the novice sewer easy to use and very lightweight and portable, this means you don’t have to worry about having a large space to keep your machine as it can be easily stored away. It's really good for beginners because of the drop in easy thread bobbin feature which makes sewing project quick and easy. It features 14 different stitches!!! Which is amazing for a budget machine. I would recommend this beautiful little machine to someone who wants to start sewing projects , do repairs and basic sewing.
I really have a passion for sewing and it makes me feel so happy. So I really want to share these a really fun sewing tips that can get you into sewing. There's something about sitting in front of the sewing machine. Creating a new garment and I will share this enjoyment with you.
there are so many threads out there it's really hard to find out which one is the best one. It can be really confusing when you want to choose one for your project. there are special threads designed for different task like some are for embroidery some are for decorative stitching some are very thick and they are made from pure cotton and someone made from rayon to polyester some of very fine and some of very thick and coarse so if you choose the wrong Fred it can spoil your project the easiest way to figure out whether or not there it is correct for you. Silk thread is used for sewing very delicate silk garments because it can be removed without leaving any tears if you make a mistake is made from 100% silk period polyester thread is all-purpose thread it's good for anything so you can never go wrong with this kind of thread this will be usually good for if you're using a sewing machine. Embroidery Thread can be a little bit fine now and it's a bit grainy because it can be used to embroidery.
Use the right cutting tools it will change your entire project don't use the same scissors that he used in the kitchen on your garments it will ruin your project. If there's one thing that was drummed into my head in by my seamstress teacher was always make sure to use proper scissors for your projects. There's nothing worse than using a dull pair of scissors on fabric. You can get so many different types of scissors you can get trimming scissors. These scissors are about 4 inches on the blade and they used to neaten the edges when your sewing on the same machine. You can get embroidery scissors these are very tiny they kind of look like the scissors that you have for your nails and they have a small head and they're quite sharp to get into those corners it's really great for if you want to cut down bulk in the fabric in the seams. Seam rippers are very handy for if you make a mistake they have a sharp pointed hook side under the stitch so that you can undo the thread they available in lots of different sizes and they're perfect for any project there an essential in every seamstress sewing box. Paper scissors of course are very important because you need them to cut the patterns when you're doing Pattern making. Pinking shears are very good because they have a zigzag pattern and they good for neatening seams and creating decorative edges.
so this is a new creation of mine and it is a little bit Japanese inspired but also a modern take on Japanese fashion. I really like the print of the fabric when I found this fabric in Shepherd's Bush I was so amazed it was in one of the little stores on Goldhawk Road.I was so mesmerised by the black pattern of this It really looks like something's been drawn across it so I wanted to create something that would emphasise the pattern and really would bring it to life I was looking to create something that was fun and exciting. I Sketched down the few design ideas I wanted to create something that was detailed but also very easy to make I wanted the simplicity of this shape to show through. So I decided to fold the fabric in half and create the dress just from cutting directly onto the fabric. For this design I decided not to create a pattern I wanted to use my creativity I think there's a kind of pure honesty when you actually just put scissors to fabric and just create. There is something so innocent about applying this technique and it really can bring about something exciting I did have an idea of how I wanted it to look, but when you're experienced with pattern cutting you kind of know what shapes look like beforehand so I had a mild idea of what I wanted to create when I started cutting the fabric.
